a summer wrap up
A biologist holds up a bat in a small cloth bag. This bat was captured in a mist net and will be examined by a biologist before being set free. July 2024.
So what have I been up to this summer? Wrapping up a filming project with Conservation North, starting a documentary project with the Nechako White Sturgeon Recovery Initiative in Vanderhoof, B.C., filming some more awesome projects with Chu Cho Environmental in Tsay Keh. I’ll expand on all of these projects below.
Conservation North - Walker Drainage
For the past 8 months or so I’ve been working with Conservation North, a non-profit based here in Prince George to put together a film highlighting the importance of having intact, healthy primary forests on the landscape. One such primary forest that Conservation North is focusing their efforts on is the Walker Valley east of Prince George, an area untouched by resource extraction and rich with a diversity of flora and fauna. The Walker is slated for logging in the future, this film project will help Conservation North bring awareness to this threat and highlight the importance of keeping places like the Walker intact.

Nechako White Sturgeon Recovery Initiative - Documentary
An ongoing documentary project with the Nechako White Sturgeon Recovery Initiative (NWSRI) based in Vanderhoof, B.C. The NWSRI is working to restore the White Sturgeon population in the Nechako River to a self-sustaining level through the work they are doing at their hatchery. This project will explore the challenges the NWSRI are facing, as well as the challenges sturgeon as a species are facing in the Nechako Watershed.

Chu Cho Environmental - 2024 Field Season
This past summer was year two filming with Chu Cho Environmental (CCE), helping to tell the stories of the research work they are doing in partnership with Tsay Keh Dene Nation in Northern British Columbia. Just like last year the work I am fortunate enough to do with CCE remains some of my favourite, from the people I get to work with to the places I get to go I am truly fortunate to work with CCE on so many of their projects.

Highlights from this summer include 3 nights of filming bat biology work, learning about watershed level conservation tactics, spending more time in Tsay Keh Dene, and working closely with the CCE crew to craft emotional and engaging stories to share about their work. Stay tuned to the CCE Youtube channel, found here, for the release of these videos.
Other Work
I also got to collaborate with a good friend of mine and fellow Prince George freelancer, Darrin Rigo (D. Rigo Media) on a great project for the District of Mackenzie. Darrin and I are also working on a project highlighting the local craft beer and cider scene here in PG, stay tuned to the Tourism Prince George channels for that one.
I also had the opportunity to work with another local production company, 6ix Sigma, here in Prince George on some larger sets than I am used to being on as a solo freelancer. These experiences working with a big crew are invaluable in seeing how other folks work and seeing what bigger budget productions look like.

If you made it this far thanks so much for reading, I’m looking forward to sharing more of my work, and thoughts about my work, here in the future. If you want to stay up to date on my field notes please enter your email address in the field below.
